The Allegany County Sheriff’s Office is a community oriented law enforcement agency, stressing the value and need for intensive Community Based Policing efforts. The Patrol Division is currently staffed by 17 Sworn Personnel, 2 Administrative Secretaries, and 3 Police Communications Officers and operates as 1 of 13, full service sheriff’s agencies in Maryland. The Patrol Division operates 3 shifts, providing 24 hour protection to the citizens of Allegany County.

Community Policing
Sheriff Goad has been instrumental in assisting the existing, while helping to establish additional, Neighborhood Crime Watches throughout the county and has conducted numerous Community Meetings in an effort to hear from citizens concerning their views about the Sheriff’s Office and what they expect from local law enforcement. This has proven to be a very useful tool to law enforcement in Allegany County.

Court Process Service
The Sheriff’s Office serves as the court system of Allegany County by serving the various types of process that are generated on a daily basis by the court system. The type of process paper handle include, Civil Process, Criminal Process, Warrants, Grand Jury Indictments, Ex-Parte Protective Orders, and Subpoenas.

Civil Process
The office serves between 350 - 500 civil process papers per month, a fee is charged for the service of this type of process which is currently set at, $40.00 per paper issued within the State of Maryland and $60.00 per paper issued by an out of state court. Service fees collected from civil process service are placed in Allegany Counties General Fund, making the Sheriff’s Office one of the few county agencies which generates revenue.

Criminal Process
The Sheriff’s Office also serves between 100 -150 Arrest Warrant and Criminal Summons per month, along with 10 -15 Ex-Parte Protective Order for abuse in that same time period.
